How To Find and Register a Domain Name For Your Blog

In this article, I will share five things to do after registering your business domain name.

5 Things To Do After Registering Your Business Domain Name

I am assuming that you already have a domain name, if not then you can click on the above banner and get a domain name for your business.

1) Protect your domain name

The first thing you should do after buying a new domain name for your business is to protect it.

You must trademark your domain if you will build the next big thing (like Twitter, Uber, etc.).

There is a service called Trademark Clearing House (TMCH) that you can use to trademark your domain.

The second way to protect your domain name is to purchase a domain blocking service such as adult block, this will prevent people from using your domain name with extensions like .xxx .adult or .porn.

The third and last way to protect your business domain name is to register similar domain names and alternate extensions.

For example, if your domain is mydomain.com, you can register mydomain.net, mydomain.org, etc.

2) Purchase a hosting plan

Now you have protected your domain name, you need to buy a hosting plan. This is where you are going to host all your files.

The analogy that I always tell people is that your domain name is like your house address, which will contain your house number, your street name, your state, country, and zip code, and your hosting is the actual house where you have your bed and everything in it.

My recommended web hosting is Cloudways, they are cheap and very fast, you can get started for free today.

This is the perfect hosting for you. If you need fast and reliable but cheap web hosting, I recommend Cloudways. They start at $11 per month, and you pay only for the resources you use.

3) Build your website

After getting a hosting account, you will need to build your website; depending on the type of website you need, you can build it differently; for me, there are three ways to build a website.

Use a website builder.

If you need a website with a few pages or for a specific application, I recommend building it using website builders.

Many website builders in the marketplace, such as Magento, Wix, Squarespace, Weebly, etc, just pick one and build your website.

Using WordPress

This is my favorite method of building a website, all you can do is to point your domain name to your hosting and then install WordPress into the hosting account, most hosting companies have the one-click WordPress installer.

Use customer code

If you want a very unique website and you know how to code, or you can hire someone who can code a website for you, then this is the right route for you.

From scratch, you can code your website and it will look exactly as you like, it is not my favorite method but when I started out I used to build websites in HTML code and it worked, this works the best if you want a static website.

4) Build a social media presence

Now you have everything set up, it is time to create social media accounts with your business name.

You need to create one account on each big social media platform, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.

You need to do this even if you’re not going to be active in all of them; make sure you include your official logo in each of those accounts; this will help you for branding, or you can use them in the future in case you want to expand your market reach.

5) Create a branded email

Last but not least, you will need to create a branded email address. What I mean by this is that you need an email address that will contain your business in it.

If your brand is mybrand, your domain name should be mybrand.com, and your email address should be support@mybrand.com or myname@mybrand.com.

This will add congruence and increase trust in your business, imagine telling the customer that they need to send their order to cutie_babe123@gmail.com, many of them will not send that order and you will lose a lot of sales.

I explain how to create a brand email here.
