In this post, I will share how beginners can start Clickbank affiliate marketing. This is the same procedure I followed to get started.

Affiliate marketing is a marketing arrangement by which an online retailer pays a commission to an external website for traffic or sales generated from its referrals.

How does Affiliate marketing work?

Affiliate marketing works in a very simple way: an affiliate ( you) goes to a vendor and gets a link for a particular product, you put and add (could be a banner or link) to your website, and the visitor comes to your website, and if they click that link or banner they will be redirected to a merchant page if they buy, the merchant track that sale and you get a percentage of that sale.

If you are new to Clickbank affiliate marketing, here are the seven steps to make your first commissions.

Step 1: Sign Up for a ClickBank Account

The first step is to create a free Clickbank account. To create an account, please go to https://accounts.clickbank.com/master/create-account.

Fill the required fields with your correct information, this will include your real name, email address, phone number and your address.

Clickbank does not allow some countries to create accounts on their platform. Ensure your information is accurate and valid to avoid account suspension from Clickbank.

Step 2: Find a ClickBank Product to Promote

After finalizing the creation of your Clickbank account, you will need to pick an excellent product to promote.

All you need to do is log into your Clickbank account and click Marketplace. That will take you directly to the Clickbank marketplace.

In the marketplace, you will find a lot of products. If you are new and have no idea where to start, pick one of the three categories: Health & Fitness, E-Business & E-Marketing, or Self-Help.

These are the categories in which people buy many products from Clickbank. Click on any category.

When the search results appear, click in the drop menu and choose Sort by gravity, High to Low.

Step 3: Analyze a ClickBank Product Listing

After figuring out the products you want to promote, it is time to filter them out and get your winners.

Clickbank marketplace will give you several details about each product they have. The only thing you need to do is to look up those numbers and choose the ones that are convenient for you.

I will give you the meaning of each number and the criteria I use when choosing the best Clickbank product to promote.

Gravity

Most people will tell you you must promote products with the highest gravity.

This is a myth because higher gravity does not necessarily mean it is a good product.

Because everyone and his dog preach about promoting high-gravity products, most affiliates, especially new ones, tend to promote these products and create unnecessary competition. Also, Clickbank gravity can be manipulated.

I will say choose a product between the gravity of 10 and 50 if this is your first Clickbank promotion.

Stick between 20 and 30 if no product is in that range. Depending on the niche, You can go a bit low or high.

Initial Sale

This is how much you make when people buy a particular product using your affiliate link.

I tend to choose products with initial sales equal to or above 20. If I make at least one sale per day, I will make at least $20 daily, which is not bad.

Initial $/conversion

This is the amount of money you will make on average for every sale you generate without rebills. This commission includes all the upsells, bump sales, and initial sales.

Recurring $/rebill

This is the amount of money you can make as a rebill. If the customer keeps paying each month after the purchase, you can expect to be paid that amount.

If this number is $0.00, the products do not have recurring payments, so you will not make any money after the initial sale. If it is higher than 0, it means it has a recurring income.

Step 4: Create an Affiliate Tracking Link (HopLink)

So now you have done all the work and found your product. You need to get your affiliate link.

This is easy. Just click the promote button (the one below Avg $/sale and this popup will appear in a new window.

At this step, you will need a notepad or any word processor. All you need to do is copy the name and the link of all affiliate products that meet the abovementioned criteria, then go to step three.

Step 5: Get Traffic to Your Affiliate Link

There are many ways to drive traffic to your landing page. You can use Pinterest, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, or X for diet and weight loss products or any other products. Pick the one you feel most comfortable with.

For this example, I created an X page (for some still Twitter). You can use any social media, and the process is the same.

Go to twitter.com and create a new page. Could you give it a name related to weight loss? For me, I gave it the name Nerd Getting Lean.

Add a logo or a picture of yourself( I added a generic photo of someone who looks like a nerd).

Do not forget to add a link to your affiliate link. You can use Canva to create a logo, and you can use it to create images and short videos that you can then post to your page.

Step 6: Monitor Your Metrics

By now, you’ve chosen a traffic source and are pointing it at your tracking link (HopLink), which is hosted on a bridge page.

As an affiliate marketer, your next job is collecting data as soon as you send traffic. You should start looking at specific numbers that tell the story of what’s working.

These metrics will help you decide which methods (and offers) are worth investing your time and money in.

The number of visitors (Hops)

And the FIRST place to look for metrics is the traffic source(s) you’re using. If you are getting one sale per 20 visitors, by doubling the number of visitors you can double your income, this is a numbers game.

Conversion rate (Hop Conversion rate)

This is the percentage of people who buy the product after landing on your affiliate link, if for every 20 visitors who lands at the affiliate link, it means you have 5% conversion rate.

By improving the presale process and the quality of people who see your affiliate link you can increase the conversion rate to 10% and this will double your income without doubling the number of people who see your page.

Step 7: Pivot or Double Down on Your Campaigns

Now you are making some money, you have two options, one is to pivot, this is when you take the knowledge and the experience you have and create the same procedure in a new niche.

You can repeat the procedure as often as possible and make a decent income using Clickbank affiliate marketing.

The second option is to double down your campaigns and scale your business in the same niche. You can do this by paying for traffic, building landing pages and your email list, creating other marketing channels like a blog, a Youtube channel etc.
