Home Depot Affiliate Program

Home Depot Affiliate Program

There are a lot of affiliate programs; some pay high commissions, and some pay lower commissions.

In today’s post, I will review the Home Depot affiliate program, its payment structure, and how to make at least $100 daily.

Table of Contents

What is Home Depot?

Home Depot is one of the biggest retail stores in the United States; it focuses on home improvements, hence the name Home Depot.

The Home Depot was founded in 1978 by Arthur Blank and Bernie Marcus.

What started as a simple “hardware store” became a big name in a home improvement retail operation.

Today, they are the world’s largest home improvement retailer.

Home Depot affiliate program review

The Home Depot affiliate program allows digital marketers, including bloggers, reviewers, influencers, and other website publishers, to make income by referring customers directly to the Home Depot website platform.

How the Home Depot affiliate program Works:

  1. As an affiliate, your job is to promote Home Depot products and services on your website, social platforms, or other channels using your unique affiliate link
  2. When a potential customer clicks on your links, you are credited as the referring affiliate
  3. You will earn a commission when the customer orders products from Home Depot. Their current commission rate is 1% on products (including appliances), mobile, and buy-online + pick-up in-store orders, and 8% on select home décor products.
  4. Tracking cookies last one day (24 hours).

Step 1: Click the link below.

https://app.impact.com/campaign-promo-signup/The-Home-Depot.brand?execution=e1s1

Step 2: Fill the form.

You must complete the form, including your contact information, promoting methods, and payment information.

Step 3: They review your application.

They will review your application, and in one or two business days, they will respond with a response if you are approved or not.

Step 4: Promote the products.

After getting approved, you can access your affiliate links and start promoting their products by adding your affiliate link to your blog, YouTube channel, or any other social media.

What do you need before you join the Home Depot affiliate program?

In my experience, before you apply for the Home Depot affiliate program, you need at least two things: an audience and content related to home improvement.

Audience.

When they review your application, they will ensure you have some audience before they approve you. They want you to send them prospects who can buy their products.

I recommend applying for this affiliate program if you have at least 500 monthly visitors to your blog, 500 monthly views on your YouTube channel, or at least 500 followers on social media and some interaction. This will prove to them that you can send some visitors to their site.

Home Decor or Home Improvement content.

If you have 100k visitors per month, but they are looking for soccer, they will probably not approve you. You need to have content that resonates with their brand and products.

If you meet those two criteria, you can apply to their affiliate program, and they will approve you.

Home Depot Affiliate program commission

The commission rate for Home Depot’s affiliate program varies between 1% and 8%, depending on the product category.

Most products have a low 1% commission.

Home Depot affiliates can earn 8% on select home décor products.

What products can not generate affiliate commissions?

Affiliates cannot earn commission on all Home Depot gift cards, custom-created products, and in-store purchases.

Gift cards.

If someone purchases with a voucher, you will not earn anything.

Installation services.

Home Depot customers can pay for installation services on many products, but affiliate commissions are calculated solely based on the product price and do not include additional service fees.

Custom created products.

A product not listed on the Home Depot online store is not eligible for commission.

In-store purchases.

This one is obvious. If someone clicks on your affiliate link and buys from a brick-and-mortar store instead of the online store, you will not earn any commission.

It’s impossible to track the referral when the purchase does not happen online.

However, you earn a commission if someone purchases online and then goes to the store to pick it up.

You are always eligible for a commission if the customer buys online and not in-store.

How do you get paid with the Home Depot affiliate program?

Since the Home Depot affiliate program is hosted on the Impact Radius platform, you can withdraw via PayPal, check, wire transfer, or direct deposit.

The minimum check payout is $100 and $50 for direct deposits. For PayPal, the payout threshold is just $10.

Due to the Home Depot return policy, you have to wait 90 days till you can withdraw your commission.

Pros and Cons of the Home Depot Affiliate Program

Pros

  • 8% of affiliate commissions in some of the selected products.
  • Hosted on Impact. You can use PayPal for withdrawals.
  • A lot of products are in the home décor category.
  • Well-known American home improvement retailer.

Cons.

  • 24-hour cookie duration.
  • The default commission is just 1%.
  • No useful marketing tools.

How to make $100 a day as a Home Depot affiliate

Making $100 a day selling 1% affiliate products is not easy, but it is possible. Here is what I recommend.

Build an audience.

Home Depot affiliate programs want you to have an audience before you apply to their affiliate program, so that is where you need to start.

You can create a YouTube channel or a blog; if you have time, you can create both.

You can learn how to create a blog here.

You can learn how to create a YouTube channel here.

Find the right keywords to target the right people.

Now that you have your marketing channel(either YouTube or a blog), you need to start creating the right content to attract the right people and build your audience.

I recommend using a keyword tool.

One of the free keyword tools you can find is the HOTH keyword planner.

Finding keywords using The HOTH keyword planner is easy.

Go to the keyword tool: https://www.thehoth.com/google-keyword-planner/

Type the keyword or product you can find from Home Depot, then click view keywords research.

the hoth

You will find many keywords that people search online to find products from Home Depot.

Each keyword comes with valuable data:

  • Keyword search volume.
  • Competition.
  • The results for each keyword.
  • The cost-per-click or CPC.
  • And whether it’s trending up or down in search.

Pick keywords with low difficulty; I will say below keyword difficulty of 30. Create content around those products; do this as often as possible.

When you start getting traffic, apply to the Home Depot affiliate program, and if approved, add the affiliate links and continue to create more content.

Your process will be to find a product, put it in a keyword tool, figure out how people find it on the internet, create content around that keyword, add an affiliate link, and if someone clicks on it, you get paid.

If you do this every day for at least six months, you should have enough traffic and commission to make at least $100 daily.

What Are the Home Depot Affiliate Program Alternatives?

Here are some of the alternatives to the Home Depot affiliate program.

Amazon Associates.

The first alternative that comes to mind is Amazon Associates.

Amazon Associates has a 3% commission for the home improvement category.

Both programs have a short 24-hour cookie duration. Nevertheless, Amazon extends the cookie duration to 90 days if a product is added to a cart.

Even though Home Depot specializes in home improvement, it does not seem to offer more home improvement products than Amazon.

Walmart.

Walmart is another retailer that does not specialize in home improvement but still has a great selection of products.

Walmart has a 3% commission for home décor and a longer 3-day cookie duration.

Just like the Home Depot affiliate program, it is hosted on Impact.

You can read more about the Walmart affiliate program here.

Wayfair.

Wayfair specializes in home furnishings and décor items.

The Wayfair affiliate program has a 7-day referral period and a 5% commission on all products.

If you want to promote home furnishing or décor items, Wayfair is a better option than Home Depot.

It’s a specialized store like the Home Depot with a slightly smaller commission but a higher cookie duration.

A cookie that remains active for seven days will result in more sales than one that expires after 24 hours.

You can join their program on CJ Affiliate.

You can read more about the Wayfair affiliate program here.

Target.

The Target affiliate program is also hosted on Impact.

Just like Wayfair, the cookie duration is seven days.

The commission ranges from 5-8%, depending on your monthly sales.

For example, if you generate less than ten monthly sales, your commission is 5%.

If you generate more than 10.000 monthly sales, your commission is 8%.

Even though Target sells home improvement products, it is not a specialized store like Home Depot or Wayfair.
